If you’ve seen American Psycho, you’ll remember one of the most famous business card scenes in movie history. Patrick Bateman proudly slides his new business card across the table.
“New card. What do you think?”
His colleagues lean in.
“Whoa. Very nice.”
“Good colouring.”
Bateman explains it’s printed on bone stock with Silian Rail lettering.
Impressed? Not for long.
Another executive calmly produces his own card.
“Eggshell with Romalian type.”
Suddenly, the room changes.
Patrick’s confidence evaporates.
As he studies the rival card, his internal monologue says:
“Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God… it even has a watermark.”
Back then, that was considered the pinnacle of business card sophistication.
A watermark.
Slightly different paper stock.
Raised lettering.
Corporate executives practically had a nervous breakdown over the smallest design details.
Fast forward to today…
Business cards can feature gold and silver foil, Spot UV, soft-touch velvet finishes, textured stocks, die-cut shapes, rounded corners, premium recycled papers, QR codes and virtually any design you can imagine.
The best part?
You don’t need a Wall Street bonus to afford them.
Patrick Bateman nearly lost his mind over a watermark.
Imagine what he’d think if someone handed him a velvet soft-touch business card with gold foil, Spot UV and a custom die-cut.
Don’t Be Another Card in the Stack
Think about what happens after a networking event.
Twenty business cards land on someone’s desk.
Nineteen look exactly the same.
But yours is the one that stands out.
